Christmas is coming closer and closer, I can’t wait to visit Christmas markets, I love them! Magic lights, cute christmas decorations, cinnamon sweets and …mead! Yes, because if in my region in Italy we mainly find vin brulé in this period of the year, here instead we can find especially mead. But what is Mead? Why do we speak about it here? Is it related to bees?
Let’s speak about it…

Here it is another thing completely new to my five senses before moving here and taking the occasion to dive into the bee world. Mead is a drink, an alcoholic drink, and its level of alcohol depends on the fermentation of water and honey, that are ist basic ingredients. The alcohol level may vary between 7 and 16 %, it depends on the kind of honey that we use. For example, the multiflora one gives generally a stronger mead, our indeed is 15,5%. Moreover, mead needs also other ingredients to start the fermentation, such us yeast and a bit of citric acid.
Is it possible to add anything else to the mead?
Of course! The beekeeper can let it rest with certain species, or can decide to add juices or to leave it as it is. There are endless combinations. And this is one of the most beautiful things of this product and that makes it so unique. In our case, we took care of it by experimenting much till we got our favorite recipe that is giving us so much satisfaction.
But with what can I drink it?
Generally people enjoy it with desserts or as aperitivo. However, a special feature of it that I do love is that is delicious both in a fresh glass and in a warm cozy mug. Now it’s a must for our parties and important moments. And what do you think about it? Have you ever tasted it?
We are looking forward to your feedback…in the meanwhile we send you our best christmas wishes, enjoy this magic period of the year (maybe while sipping some mead, why not?)
A hug,
the Gaeblini
