Un giorno di ritorno da una passeggiata nella quiete di Friedrichswalde, passando dalla stradina che dá sulle nostre arnie, stavo pensando ‘ma quanto sono belle?’. Poi ho iniziato a riflettere su come una qualsiasi persona possa avere piacere di dare un suo piccolo contributo all’apicoltore e alle sue api. In particolare una persona un minimo amante della natura e sensibile a temi quali sostenibilitá e biodiversitá.
Ti é mai spuntato questo quesito: belle le api, buono il miele, ma io nel mio piccolo che posso fare? Come aiutare le api?
Secondo me é una domanda tanto piccola quanto immensa, e soprattutto, assolutamente lecita! Dopo aver raggiunto la piena consapevolezza di quanto le api – questi esseri piccini picció – siano essenziali per il nostro ecosistema, sicuramente qualcosa si sará smosso dentro di te. É il nostro mondo, posso o non posso fare qualcosa attivamente per salvarlo? Sono parole che suoneranno altisonanti, lo so, peró sono sicura al 100% che se tutti, uno a uno, ci prendessimo anche solo un piccolo impegno in un´ottica di salvaguardia della biodiversitá, qualcosa inizierebbe a cambiare. Aiutare le api sarebbe un buon primo passo sicuramente. A lamentarsi e non far niente, non cambia nulla di sicuro. A ponderare e non far niente, non ci saranno grandi passi avanti ad ogni modo. Ma se dal ponderare si passasse all’azione, che ne dici?
Semina, semina che poi qualcosa raccogli…a tal proposito, ecco una cosa che potresti fare: seminare!
Come aiutare le api? Piantala e agisci!
Ci sono tutta una serie di fiori di cui le api sono innamorate o fiori particolarmente ricchi di nettare. Presente quando vai al supermercato e ci sono i tuoi biscotti (scusate sono in fissa con i biscotti) preferiti in offerta!? Ecco, una cosa cosí. E se proprio tu piantassi qualcosa che possa far felici tante api? Hai mai sentito le cosiddette piante bee-friendly? Le piante amiche delle api. Io non ci avevo mai fatto caso prima di avvicinarmi a questo meraviglioso mondo giallo e nero, ma se vai a un qualsiasi vivaio o anche tranquillamente in un ipermercato, con tutta probabilitá potrai trovare ad esempio dei vasetti con un’etichetta proprio con questa dicitura ´bee-friendly´. Ecco, quel bel vasetto sarebbe sulla wish list di Amazon di una qualsiasi ape.
Ci sono stati tantissimi studi dietro questa lista dei desideri, tant’é che esiste la possibilitá addirittura di calcolare il cosiddetto potenziale mellifero, cioé quanto miele si puó ricavare da una certa pianta nel suo periodo di fioritura e in condizioni ottimali. Hai un pezzetto di giardino o un davanzale un po’ smorto? Perché non dargli un bel tocco in piú con un fiore o una pianta che possa aiutare le api? Nella maggior parte dei casi tra l’altro non hanno bisogno di particolari cure – non bisogna essere pollici verdi, per intenderci.

Cosa piantare per aiutare le api?
Il manuale di apicoltura di Pistoia che vi citavo quando si parlava di arnie (esattamente qui https://www.gaeblini.com/2021/04/04/dove-posizionare-le-arnie/ ), fornisce diversi esempi:
- Facelia (Phacelia tanacetifolia): ha un elevato potenziale nettarifero, ha una fioritura molto lunga e questo é ottimo in apicoltura perché le api possono cibarsi del suo nettare in modo graduale e per un arco di tempo piú lungo
- Hovenia dulcis (Albero dell’uva passa), i suoi peduncoli commestibili sono dolci (a differenza dei frutti che invece sono immangiabili), é caratterizzata da una fioritura tardiva e ad alto contenuto nettarifero
- Evodia tetradium, qui il potenziale nettarifero é talmente alto che viene chiamato addirittura albero del miele, l’apoteosi delle api insomma. Anche questa ha una fioritura tardiva (fine estate – inizio autunno) – perché specifico questo? perché é importante lasciare un maggior numero di fonti nettarifere spalmato nell’arco dei vari mesi dell’anno.
Ci sono poi una serie di piante considerate ornamentali che sono ottime fonti di nettare: dal liriodendro, alla lavanda, dal tiglio all’eucalipto.
Esistono inoltre tanti alberi da frutto che fanno letteralmente ballare la samba alle api: ciliegio, melo, cotogno, nocciolo, pero e anche altri come lamponi, mirtilli, more, fragole e ribes.
A me che piace cucinare e che adoro dare quel tocco in piú con le spezie, mi si sono illuminati gli occhi quando ho scoperto che alcune piante come rosmarino, salvia, santoreggia, basilico e timo sono particolarmente amate dalle nostre api.
Tanta scelta quindi, non trovi?
Praticamente compri una pianta e offri la cena a un’ape, non male no? Sarebbe bello anche sensibilizzare le nostre amministrazioni ad utilizzare questi tipi di piante in zone incolte o nei nostri parchi. Sarebbe un bellissimo gesto bee-friendly! Un modo come un altro per aiutare le api nel nostro piccolo. Nel bel prato comunale accanto a casa nostra, ad esempio, sono stati piantati tanti cotogni e dei peri. Questi sono un po’ ‘chi le vuole, se le piglia‘. Difatti, abbiamo raccolto kili e kili di mele cotogne l’autunno scorso, ho portato una cassetta piena anche a mia mamma e mia zia in quel di Bergamo! Poi nei vari prati del paesello ci sono tanti prugni e ho trovato anche diversi alberi di sambuco – non vedo l’ora che torni l’estate per sfoggiare le mie doti da mastra marmellataia 🙂
E i Gäblini? Che hanno piantato finora?
Per quanto riguarda noi? Nel giardino dei Gäblini puoi trovare 3 meli (e un cucciolo di melo che abbiamo piantato l’anno scorso, il nostro ‘melino’, che adesso ha delle tenere gemme), un ciliegio piú datato e due peri piantati anche questi l’anno scorso sui quali stanno spuntando timidamente delle foglioline. Poi abbiamo rosmarino, salvia, timo e origano. Un’altra piantina bee-friendly che abbiamo comprato nel 2020 é la lavanda, speriamo che diventi presto un bel cespuglio!

Ha davvero una passione smoderata per tutti i tipi di fiori, quindi anche quelli ne abbiamo in abbondanza un po’ dappertutto. L’anno scorso inoltre abbiamo deciso di avventurarci nel mondo dell’orto. Nella nostra bellissima serra, c’erano basilico, cetrioli, rape rosse, pomodori, insalata e nella restante parte dell’orto -all’aperto- carote, patate, fagiolini, fragole, cespuglietti di more, lamponi e mirtilli, questi ultimi comprati un paio di anni fa ma siamo rimasti piacevolmente sorpresi dai risultati 🙂 mi sono fatta di quelle scorpacciate di yogurt, miele e lamponi che vi lascio immaginare!
