Am 20. Mai war der internationale Tag der Biene und es ist kein Zufall dass wir nicht so viel später den Internationalen Tag der Biodiversität haben.

Biodiversität. Dieses Wort hören wir in der jüngsten Zeit immer häufiger. Doch was genau bedeutet es? Könntest du mir die Bedeutung erklären?

Bevor du weiter liest halte ein und versuche eine Definition zu formulieren. So, wie ob du es einem Kind erklären würdest. Kannst du dies? Sobald du verstanden hast warum es so wichtig ist wirst du dich sicherlich fragen: Was kann ich für die Biodiversität tun? Lies weiter und du wirst ein paar Antworten finden. 🙂

Was ist Biodiversität?

Ich versuchte und ich gebe zu, dass es anstrengend war, Erklärung für dieses Wort zu finden. Doch es ist keineswegs ein Problem: Es gibt immer eine Lösung!

Bereits auf den ersten Blick erkennst du, dass das Wort eine Verbindung aus zwei anderen ist: Bio (aus dem Griechischen und bedeutet Leben) + Diversität. Und wie können wir dies Übersetzen? Als die Vielfalt aller existierenden und lebenden Organismen auf dem Planeten. beginnend bei unterschiedlichen Ökosystemen über unterschiedliche Spezies bis hin zu den kleinen unterschieden innerhalb der selben Art.

Doch warum ist die Vielfalt so wichtig? Ok, ich glaube das gerade durch diese Vielfalt die Welt ein wundervoller Ort ist. Doch da muss es mehr geben, oder nicht? Da ist mehr! Dank dieser Vielfalt – und wir sprechen hier über Vielfalt auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen (genetische Veranlagung, Arten und Ökosysteme) ist es leichter auf Veränderungen zu reagieren. Die Biodiversität erlaubt es einer bestimmten Spezies oder einem ganzen Ökosystem auf Veränderungen wie zum Beispiel auf Gefahren oder einfach nur neue Bedingungen zu reagieren und dadurch auch zu überleben.

Verschmutzung, Klimaveränderung, intensive Landwirtschaft, unkontrollierte Jagd, Abholzung und viele weitere Gründe können diese Veränderungen haben. Ist dir aufgefallen, dass wenn wir über gefährdete Tierarten sprechen es zumeist eine der zuvor genannten Ursachen hat? Wenn man darüber nachdenkt erscheint es unglücklicherweise so, dass jede Ursache die die Biodiversität bedroht mit dem Menschen und seinen Taten in Verbindung steht.

und wo ist die Verbindung der Bienen zur Biodiversität?

Das Konzept der Biodiversität haben wir jetzt erklärt. Kannst du mir sagen ob es eine Verbindung zu den Bienen gibt? Wenn ja, welche und warum?

Die Bienen garantieren den Pflanzen eine Zukunft und bekommen dafür ein wenig Nektar und Pollen. Eine wundervolle Synergie, nicht wahr? Jedes Jahr am 22. Mai informieren die Vereinten Nationen über einen Aspekt der Biodiversität. Letzten Jahr, 2020 das Jahr der Pandemie, informierten sie unter dem Slogan ‚unsere Lösungen sind in der Natur‚ über die Wichtigkeit der Natur. Ich denke das ist ein schöner Satz. Denn es ist genau so, nicht wahr? Auch wenn wir uns als autonom betrachten und uns mit unserer fortschrittlichen Technologie sicher fühlen, sind wir doch sehr abhängig von der Natur. Mit diesem Motto wollen sie darauf hinweisen das wir noch immer ein teil der uns umgebenden Natur sind. In dem Motto heißt es „UNSERE Lösungen…“, es ist nichts separates oder etwas so weit entferntes das es uns nichts angehen würde und wir uns nicht dafür interessieren müssten. Genau das ist es was die Vereinten Nationen damit im letzten Jahr betonen wollten: Es liegt in unser aller Verantwortung eine Zukunft zu schaffen die so harmonisch wie möglich im Einklang mit der Natur steht.

Die Bienen müssen in all dem viele Herausforderungen meistern. Deshalb ist es unsere Pflicht uns darüber im klaren zu sein, die Schäden gering zu halten und wenn möglich aktiv einzugreifen um die bereits entstandenen Schäden zu reparieren. Die Bienen sind ein Mikrokosmos der das Nachhaltigkeitslevel unserer Leben verbessern kann. Mit ein paar kleinen Handlungen können wir die Biodiversität schützen. Bienen sind nicht nur Honigproduzenten. Etwa ein drittel der weltweiten Nahrungsproduktion ist von der Bestäubungsleistung der Bienen abhängig. Aus diesem Grund werden sie als essenziell betrachtet. Nicht nur für die Vielfalt der Wildpflanzen, auch aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen in der Landwirtschaft. Nur noch ein kleiner Hinweis am Rande: Bienen ernähren sich nicht von Früchten und sie machen keine Trauben oder Kirschen kaputt. Solltest du so etwas beobachten handelt es sich höchstwahrscheinlich um Wespen. Sie zerstören nichts, sie helfen der Landwirtschaft stattdessen.

Was können wir tun?

Jetzt denkst du sicherlich: „Ok, nach all dem Sermon habe ich es verstanden. Doch was kann ich tun?“. Richtig, genau das habe ich mich auch gefragt. Jetzt da ich mir über die unumstößliche Wichtigkeit der Biodiversität im klaren bin, Was kann ich in meinem täglichen Leben tun um sie zu schützen? Hast du Vorschläge die die Situation nicht noch verschlimmern?

Nun, es gibt viel was getan werden kann. Damit beginnend dass wir Müll nicht irgendwo in der Natur entsorgen. Schmeißt du etwa dein Bonbonpapier einfach nur auf den Fußboden deiner Wohnung? Es klingt vielleicht offensichtlich, doch scheint es mir manchmal als sei es das nicht. Wenn du die Wahl hast kannst du dich für regionale und saisonale Früchte oder Obst entscheiden. Respektiere die Natur und die darin lebenden Tiere wenn du wandern gehst. Gestalte deinen Garten so abwechslungsreich wie möglich und vermeide Pestizide oder andere chemische Substanzen so gut es geht. Geh zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad zum Bäcker um die Ecke. Bleib aktiv dabei und bilde dich zum Thema weiter. Hilf anderen das Konzept zu verstehen, beginne in deiner Straße oder in dem Dorf in dem du lebst. Es wäre toll wenn der Gedanke an die Biodiversität auch bei der Gestaltung von Parks, Grünflächen oder Straßenrändern Beachtung finden würde. Du kannst die Menschen in deinem Umfeld auch mit Geschenken sensibilisieren. Indem man etwas mit tieferer Bedeutung und auch noch nützliches verschenkt. Nichts das meine Mom ‚ciapopover‘ nennen würde (das bedeutet in etwa: Staubfänger). Zum Beispiel ein Buch über umweltfreundliche Reisen für die die gerne in den Urlaub fahren, ein Glas Honig zum Muttertag, Bio Schokolade zum Vatertag oder ein Trockenshampoo, das immer mehr -neugierde erweckt, für die Schwester.
