Nach der Paarung: die Königin legt Eier… aber wie??

Ich bin glücklich schwanger, es ist fast Valentinstag,… Liebe liegt in der Luft! An diesem Punk möchte ich über Bienen und etwas das irgendwie mit Liebe zu tun hat sprechen. Erinnerst du dich wie wir über die Paarung der Bienen und das unglückliche Ende der Drohnen gesprochen haben? Fragst du dich jetzt nicht auch: wenn die Königin nur eine Paarung hat, während dieses famosen Hochzeitsfluges, wo kommen dann all die Eier her welche sie unablässig legt?? Wie kann sie so viele Eier legen? Wie funktioniert das?

Die Königin legt Eier, genau… aber wie?

Lasst uns damit beginnen das alles ganz anders funktioniert als bei uns (allen Säugetieren um genau zu sein). Nach dem Hochzeitsflug, in dem sie so viele Spermien wie nur möglich sammelte, kommt die Königin zurück in die Bienenbeute. Erschöpft aber glücklich. Jetzt kann sie beginnen mit ihrer eigentlichen Aufgabe zu beginnen. Eier legen, als ob es kein Morgen gäbe! Wenn man jetzt noch bedenkt das eine Königin einige Jahre lang leben kann (während es für Arbeiterinnen und Drohnen höchstens ein paar Monate sind) sind das schon ziemlich viele Eier. Das ganze Jahr über (ok ok, ausgenommen dem Zeitraum in dem der Superorganismus aufhört zu wachsen, dem Winter natürlich!).

Aber, nur die Königin legt Eier?

Mmm Ja und Nein! Arbeiterinnen können in Ausnahmefällen auch Eier legen, allerdings werden diese üblicherweise sofort entsorgt. Sie besitzen natürlich auch Reproduktionsorgane jedoch sind sie – wie der Imkereiexperte Paolo Fontana erklärte /leider gibt es dieses Buch nur in Italienisch) – frigid. Das bedeutet das sie trotz der vorhandenen Organe sich nicht paaren. Aus diesem Grund können aus ihren Eiern auch nur Drohnen schlüpfen.

Das verstehe ich nicht… warum nur Männchen?

Um es so einfach wie möglich zu sagen: aus befruchteten Eiern schlüpfen Mädchen (Arbeiterinnen oder Königinnen) und aus unbefruchteten Eiern schlüpfen Jungs (Drohnen). Warum das? Weil befruchtete Eier Chromosomen von Mutter Königin und auch von Papa Drohne erhalten. Dabei, unbefruchtete Drohnen Eier erhalten nur Chromosomen von der Mutter. Diese kleine Lektion in Genetik soll zeigen wie wichtig der Hochzeitsflug der Königin ist. Ohne die Paarung könnte sie die Bienenbeute nicht mit vielen vielen hart arbeitenden Arbeiterbienen füllen.

Es stimmt die Königin legt Eier. Doch was wenn ich euch sage das auch die Arbeiterinnen involviert sind?

Was ich damit meine? Nun, mach dich bereit weil das so unglaublich ist: die Königin kann entscheiden ob sie ein weibliches oder männliches Ei legt und dies Entscheidung wird von den Arbeiterinnen beeinflusst! Aber… wie das? Es gibt unterschiede bei den Zellen für Arbeiterinnen und Drohnen. Die der Drohnen sind viel größer. Also läuft unsere Bienenkönigin im Bienenstock herum und betrachtet zuerst die Größe der Zelle bevor sie sich entschließt welche Art Ei sie hinein legt. ‚Ok, diese Zelle ist groß also lege ich ein Ei für eine Drohne hinein!‘ oder ‚Diese Zelle ist klein und ich lege ein Ei für eine Arbeiterin hinein!‘ und so weiter und so weiter. Da diese Zellen von den Arbeiterinnen gebaut werden haben diese auch einen entscheidenden Einfluss. Man könnte sagen das sie damit die Entscheidungen der Königin beeinflussen. (Sogar ob eine neue Königin gebraucht wird.)

Beeinflusst nicht auch die Mittelwand welche Zellen gebaut werden?

Ja klar, definitiv! Mit der Mittelwand werden Bienen eher Zellen für Arbeiterinnen also weibliche Eier bauen! Der Imker will das auch. Denn Arbeiterinnen sind auch die welche den Nektar sammeln und die Produktivität beeinflussen. Außerdem scheint es das die Varroa Milben sich bevorzugt in den Zellen der größeren Drohnenbrut vermehren. Somit ist es sogar ein weiterer Weg die Milbenkonzentration unter Kontrolle zu halten.

Auch in diesem Fall kann ein ungewöhnlich hohes Maß an Organisation und Balance beobachtet werden. Es ist wahr das die Königin die Eier legt, allerdings wird diese Entscheidung von den Arbeiterinnen geführt… echte Teamarbeit. Wie denkst du darüber? Wusstest du von dieser Besonderheit der Bienen?
