Siamo entrati in punta di piedi nell’intimitá dell’ape: dall’accoppiamento (povero fuco!), alla deposizione dell’uovo. E poi?? Dall’ovetto all’apina vera e propria?? E una volta nata, che succede? Cosa fanno le api nel corso di una vita intera? Si parla sempre di ‘api laboriose’…ma cosa fanno le api esattamente? Prima di proseguire con la lettura dell’articolo, fermati un attimo e prova a dirmi una risposta! Pensaci bene…che caspiterina fanno le api tutto il giorno??

Dall’uovo deposto a…?

L’ape regina depone l’uovo, fecondato (femminuccia) o non (maschietto) e poi? In quanto tempo abbiamo l’ape fatta e finita? Dipende! Innanzitutto ci sono diversi stadi: prima di tutto abbiamo una larva, che poi diventerá una pupa e poi un’ape al 100%! Quanto questo processo duri dipende dal tipo di ape: per un’ape regina la metamorfosi dura 16 giorni, per quella operaia 21 giorni e per il fuco 24 giorni.

E poi?? Una volta nate, cosa fanno le api?

Soffermiamoci in particolare sulle mansioni delle api operaie, che sono tra l’altro la maggioranza in un alveare e con un ventaglio molto variegato di faccende. Allora, ci hai pensato? Cosa fanno le api nelle loro giornate? Certo, di cose ne sanno fare e ne fanno, ma la cosa piú affascinante é che non vanno a casaccio. A seconda della propria etá ed esperienza, si occupano di un qualcosa in particolare e l’incessante deporre le uova da parte della regina comporta un continuo ricambio. Insomma, c’é sempre qualcuno che fa quello che va fatto e in totale armonia, con un vero e proprio spirito di squadra.

Quindi cosa fanno le api tutto il giorno?

L’anno scorso, prima della fine dell’alta stagione apistica, mi sono permessa di fermare un’ape piú che adulta mentre tornava dalla raccolta. Come ben sai, sono un tipo curioso e le volevo chiedere se le andava di raccontarmi un po’ la sua vita. “Sono certa sia interessantissima e piena di cose da fare, ma mi chiedevo che cosa esattamente…mi chiedevo se dall’alto della sua esperienza e saggezza…“. Insomma, volevo un po’ lusingarla per convincerla e ce l’ho fatta. Si é fermata qualche minuto per raccontarmi un po’ e io, ovviamente, a prendere appunti – che ti riporto volentieri qui di seguito:

La vita tipo di un’ape operaia

Beh, posso dire che effettivamente di cose ne ho viste e ne ho fatte…d’altronde, 55 primavere! Si parte con una gavetta niente male: il primo paio di giorni da cenerentola sono stati pesanti! Pulire tutte ‘ste cellette – voglio dire, hai visto quante?? – e poi tenere quanto piú al caldo le future sorelline! Poi certo, bisognava pure dargli da mangiare, sfornare e infornare pappa reale, polline e miele tutto il giorno. Questo non solo per le sorelline ovviamente, anche per la mamma…ah la nostra mamma! La coccolavo, la nutrivo…faremmo di tutto per lei! Poi quando ho compiuto dieci giorni, mi sono spostata in un’altra zona come addetta alle provviste di miele e polline. Le mie sorelle maggiori ce ne portavano in gran quantitá e io con le mie coetanee mettevo via per conservare il tutto al meglio. Le giornate volavano tra le pulizie dell’alveare e la costruzione di nuove cellette con la cera, tante soddisfazioni, ci uscivano di quei capolavori! Ma non dimenticheró mai il giorno del mio 17esimo compligiorno, con la mia primissima uscita dall’alveare! Il mio primo volo di perlustrazione. Uscivamo, sole bello caldo e il colore dei fiori, e che profuuumo,…bei tempi! Poi tornavamo a casa e dicevamo alle sorelle bottinatrici dove andare a trovare del buon nettare! Dopo due giorni di onorato servizio in difesa dell’alveare, era giunto il momento anche per me – all’alba dei 22 giorni – di esplorare e contribuire nel raccogliere provviste di acqua, nettare, propoli, polline e cosí continuo a riempire le mie giornate! Posso dire di aver vissuto una vita ricca e meravigliosa! Scusa, ora devo proprio scappare, devo andare a ballare per indicare i luoghi di raccolta alle sorelle che sono alle prime armi, mi stanno aspettando! É stato un piacere comunque, a presto!

E prima che potessi staccare gli occhi dal taccuino era giá volata via!

Sapere cosa fanno le api non é importante solo per l’apicoltore, che ha bisogno di sapere tutto ció per procedere con le sue attivitá apistiche nel rispetto delle api. É importante anche per te: speriamo che ti faccia riflettere su quanto da fare ci sia dentro e fuori un’arnia e quanto affascinanti siano gli equilibri della natura, che meritano per l’appunto il nostro rispetto!
